Entrevías
The Entrevías neighbourhood is located in the south-east of Madrid in the district of Puente de Vallecas. It is so called because it is surrounded by a series of railway tracks leading in all directions.
It is a popular and somewhat peripheral district, created in the 1950s to accommodate people from rural areas looking for work. It is not as dangerous as the Netflix series of the same name portrayed it. The film images were intended to tell a fictional story aimed at denouncing the situations of violence and social inequality that can occur within society. Entrevías was only taken as a set to tell this story, but the situation depicted in the series is far removed from reality.
Perhaps in the past the neighbourhood has experienced hard times, as has happened almost everywhere in the country, but the situation today is no longer like that. On the contrary, today it is a residential area where people choose to live in order to find a quieter living dimension and also solidarity compared to the liveliness of the centre of Madrid. It has the largest number of green spaces in the city.
In any case, it is very well connected by roads, motorways and ring roads, as well as by public transport: trains and buses.

What to see and do
Entrevías is a district characterised by green spaces. In fact, a large part of its area is occupied by a huge park.
This is the Entrevías Forest Park, characterised by a forest of pines, cypresses and cedars and enriched by hiking trails and even a stretch of bicycle path. This makes it a perfect place for a variety of activities and needs, so it is visited by both those in search of relaxation and those who want to do sports.
Also, part of this large area is the Soto de Entrevías Park, which provides a botanical walk and a panoramic view of the south of Madrid. Throughout the entire district, including the parks, a redevelopment project has been ongoing for some time with the aim of making the barrio more modern. In the park in particular, the plan is to restore the lagoons, improve access and make the whole area more functional.
As is happening in the area's other park, Garrigues Walker Park, where new plantations have been created for forest regeneration and street furniture has been increased for the benefit of citizens. A sports area, dedicated to gymnastic activities, has also been introduced, as well as an area for pets, which can now enjoy a recreational space where a fountain for their exclusive use has also been installed.
Entrevías may not have artistic and cultural attractions worth mentioning, but it is a neighbourhood on a human scale. Here you can experience everyday life within a popular dimension that makes it a kind of small village within the city.
In addition, there are a number of sports centres where you can play team sports such as volleyball, basketball and football, but where there are also courses of other kinds, such as rhythmic gymnastics. There is also a rugby field near the park.
Also in the neighbourhood is the Centro Cultural El Pozo del Tío Raimundo, a space with two exhibition halls, reading and study rooms, an auditorium that is also used as a theatre, rehearsal rooms and also a cafeteria and the Municipal Library.
Where to eat and drink
Although it is not one of Madrid's movida districts, Entrevías offers a number of restaurants and places to eat and drink, from breakfast to dinner.
For example, as in all the other barrios of Madrid, there is no shortage of tapas bars where you can sample Spanish specialities: Cafe Bar A & J Copas Tapas, also with outdoor tables, La Andaluza, for a more refined dinner, Bar El Reencuentro Entrevías, Bar El Tigre, for an aperitif or an informal dinner with friends. Or Bar Verdades, Bar Dos Ángeles, Bar Restaurante Sevilla, Bar La Trini, friendly places where you can also find beers, wine and cocktails.
At Taberna de Noelia, you will find traditional homemade dishes, and parties are also organised here for almost any kind of event: birthday, hen and stag parties.
There are also ethnic and international cuisine restaurants: Salkantay and Chifa Doromari are Peruvian and offer generous portions, Gran Hong Kong is an Asian restaurant, Restaurante Table Africaine, where you can find both Spanish and African dishes. There are several kebab restaurants in the neighbourhood for a quick lunch or dinner or take-away.
There is no shortage of cafés for breakfast or a snack, as well as pubs, breweries and nightclubs to spend the evening, including Disco Kpeyra Latina open on weekends from evening to morning.
Where to go shopping
For fresh products, the neighbourhood's landmark on Sunday mornings is the Mercadillo Entrevías. Here there are stalls selling fruit and vegetables, meat, fish, cold meats and cheeses, and delicatessen products, as well as a second-hand market.
In addition, Entrevías offers grocery shops, shops and supermarkets for everyday shopping of all kinds. In the area you will find shops selling clothes, shoes, household items, furniture, as well as jewellers, pharmacies, bookshops, pet shops and all useful personal services.
Beyond Avenida de Entrevías is also the Madrid Sur Shopping Centre, one of the largest shopping areas in the city. It is spread over three floors and, in addition to the supermarket, offers a range of services and recreational, dining and leisure areas.
Not far from the shopping centre is also Floristería Contreras, a well-stocked flower shop offering services to individuals and companies. You may find plants and flowers to embellish and colour your flat.
